Signed contracts for the allocation of rural households with 14 families of IDPs and returnees under the Readmission agreement

On Monday, 20th of January 2020, 14 families signed their contracts on the allocation of rural households within the project LSG 4 LAP  - Durable solutions for IDPs and returnees through partnership. A total of 10 IDP families and 4 returnee families received permanent housing solutions within this component. Twelve rural households were provided owing to the funds provided from the European Union, while another two were provided by the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration.


As many as 9 families from Smederevska Palanka, 4 families from Kovin and 1 family from Velika Plana now have their own roof over their heads, and in the coming period, they will be provided with furniture, household appliances, and construction materials worth a total of 1500 EUR for the purposes of household renovation and furnishing.

Mayor of the City of Smederevo dr Jasna Avramovic emphasized the role of the City of Smederevo as a project partner, who provided pre-financing and administrative support. The Mayor wished beneficiary families luck and harmony in their new households.

Assistant Commissioner for Refugees and Migration, Mr. Ivan Gerginov, pointed out that Smederevo and the municipalities of Smederevska Palanka, Velika Plana and Kovin hosted over 10,000 refugees from the territory of the former SFRY, and 11,565 persons are currently registered as internally displaced in these municipalities. Such a large number of people in need require a very strong commitment from all parties including Commissariat, local governments, the international community and civil society to address their needs.

In the following period, contracts will also be signed with families who will be awarded packages of building material and economic empowerment.

The project is implemented by the Initiative for Development and Cooperation in cooperation with the City of Smederevo and the municipalities of Smederevska Palana, Velika Plana and Kovin. The project is funded by the European Union through the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia under the program "EU Support for Sustainable Solutions for Internally Displaced Persons and Reintegration of Returnees", worth total of € 5.65 million.
